Brand name drugs can often be very costly and also effective. Some people who need a certain type of drug may have to spend a great amount in order to obtain it. Fortunately many drug companies in India have developed generic types of medications which are the same as the brand name.

The difference between generic (Tadalafil) and brand name (Cialis)

The generic name of a drug is usually an ingredient in the drug and represents the chemical makeup of it. The brand name drug is what the manufacturer decides to call the drug. A generic medication cannot look like the brand name medication it is replicating; therefore there may be changes in shape and color. The only difference besides appearance is the inactive ingredients such as dye. The main active ingredient has to remain the same so the effect is also the same.

Tadalafil

Tadalafil is most commonly used for the treatment of erectile dysfunction in males between the ages of 50-75. A dosage of about 2.5 mg a day is given and the effects can last up to 36 hours.

Indian manufacturers

Bengal Chemicals and Pharmaceutical Works was the first Indian pharmaceutical company and still exists today as one of the five government owned drug manufacturers. The company first appeared in Calcutta in 1930 and began receiving imports of drugs from multinationals either in bulk form or fully formulated. The patent act 1970 helped India to begin formulating generic drugs and begin marketing them.

Patent act 1970

The Patent act 1970 removed composition patents from food and drugs and shortened the patent life to five to seven years. This allows for a generic drug to be created and marketed under a different name for a substantially lower cost. The cost is lower because the company saves money developing the drug because the drug has already been developed. The company only has to change a few components of the drug such as size, color, and some of the inactive ingredients in order to make it its own pill.

Statistics of Indian manufacturers

In the past 60 years the Indian manufacturing companies have grown substantially, in the year 2002, over 20,000 drug manufacturers in India sold around $9 billion worth of formulations and bulk drugs. The United States and Russia received over 60% of these bulk drugs while about 85% stayed in India.

In 2004, the top ten pharmaceutical companies in India were, Ranbaxy Laboratories, Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories, Cipla, Nicolas Piramal India, Aurobindo Pharma, GlaxoSmithKline, Lupin Laboratories, Sun Pharmaceutical Industries, Cadila Healthcare and Wockhardt. These companies accounted for millions of dollars made on generic drugs such as tadalafil.

The brand name for tadalafil is order cialis, cheap cialis can be expensive and unaffordable for some, luckily companies such as the ones in India, produce a generic medication and call it tadalafil. Tadalafil costs much lower than Cialis because the companies in India did not have to spend money developing the drug. They changed the look of the pill and only some of the inactive ingredients, tadalafil works the same as Cialis but fortunately costs much less.
